A COMMON PROBLEM:
One of the most common problems faced by the users of the iPad device is its backlight problem. The backlight of any device enables the users to see the contents on the screen. So, if there’s any damage to this backlight, even though the device is working fine, users would be unable to see the device contents.
The reasons for the damage of the backlight might be many. An accidental drop, contact with liquids or water may cause some of the ICs of the backlight to burn or get shorted. But one of the major reasons considered by the expert technicians for this problem to appear is users trying to handle and repair some iPad repair themselves and unknowingly causing the damage.
INDICATIONS FOR BACKLIGHT DAMAGE:
The first and the most obvious indication would be the sounds heard from the iPad by the user without any display output. When the user can confirm that the device is turned down and if he or she could hear the sounds of any menu or applications on the device, then the problem is definitely with the backlight.
CONFIRMATION METHODS:
Connect the iPad in question to a TV output lead and check whether the TV display is showing a full color display. If not, then we can confirm that it is a backlight problem. But the users need not panic because this is one of the most common and simplest problems to deal and solve.
CAUSES FOR THE BACKLIGHT DAMAGE:
It has been mentioned above that the common reasons that cause backlight damage are accidental damage, liquid contact and improper handling. Let us now see how they cause the damage and how to handle.
- Accidental damage or a bad drop are usually the most easy to solve. When the iPad is accidentally dropped, a simple reset would do the trick and restore the backlight to full functionality. 99% of the times, this would solve the problem.
- Liquid damage may cause quite a complication. It is always suggested to take the device to a qualified technician as soon as the device comes across this damage. If the user has some experience in dealing with this kind of problem, then it is suggested that the user remove the logic board from the iPad and clean it with ultrasonic tank and isopropyl alcohol.
- Improper handling in trying to replace the screen may result in backlight damage. The restoration requires component replacement and micro-soldering skills as there might be a damage to the ICs.
