Samsung is, without doubt the leading player in the world smartphone industry at present and all the fancy technology may not have enabled the Korean organisation to reach the milestone without support from Google’s operating system – Android. Android has been instrumental in ensuring that Samsung are not only able to compete with the Apple iPhone and the iOS but surpass its sales. However, Samsung could now venture in the OS industry, according to Lowell McAdam, Chief Executive Verizon Wireless. McAdam has made his intentions clear that he does not only want to sell Apple and Android but wants a third strong competitor.

Samsung Thinking To Introduce Its Own OS

Research in Motion (RIM)’s ship has been steered into hard rocks although Verizon are not counting them out of the picture as Verizon have let their desire out of selling Blackberry phones early next year but that too may not be the long term solution to their need of a third competitor. Moreover, he said that he was excited about the products Verizon are going to launch running the Windows Phone as it is probably the most versatile in terms of hardware. McAdam finally revealed that Samsung could be best placed to stake a claim and categorized them as dark horses, mainly due to the fact that it has the best resources. He also says that this is not just his thoughts and Samsung too have played around with the idea of introducing their own operating system. One of the reasons for the initiative could be the battle concerning patent rights between Apple and Samsung as several patents were related to OS features. Samsung wants to remove its dependency on Google’s Android and wants to explore avenues from where it could avoid future encounters with Apple and remain innovative.

Will Bada e Improved To Turn It Into a New OS?

Samsung is not new in this area of industry as it already has its own operating system, Bada, which it uses in phones in select areas of the world. McAdam did not refer to whether he was talking about Samsung improving on Bada or a completely new OS. If Samsung are able to pull this off, then they could be the only ones apart from Apple and RIM to control both software and hardware of their phones but both other companies have had contrasting fortunes. There has been no official word from Samsung on the remarks made by the Verizon Chief and some analysts believe that McAdam is just trying to fuel the competition.
