The rumors of the release of PlayStation 3 Super Slim, also known as PS3-4000, have been flying around for quite some now and day-by-day, they are getting stronger. PlayStation 3 may be approaching six years of age but it is still going strong with several anticipated games to be released in the near future. Sony Worldwide Studios Chief, Shuhei Yoshida, revealed that it is just one of the rumors circulating ahead of the Tokyo Gameshow although many believe it is one of the worst kept secrets in console gaming. However, Head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Jim Ryan, has simply laughed off the rumors. A strong reason for the Super Slim introduction could be the fact that Sony gave the PlayStation 3 a ten year lifespan and therefore looks in no hurry to talk about PlayStation 4. Bringing in the Super Slim could prove to be a smart move in terms of keeping the consumer interest alive.

PS 3 Super Slim Expected Specs:

As far as the technical aspects of the Super Slim are concerned, reports say that it will be a 16GB device based on flash memory and models will be shipped out in 250GB and 500GB versions. Many PlayStation users desired for portable and attachable HDDs instead of the customary storage but it looks as if their wishes are not going to be fulfilled. The design is expected to be the mix of the original PS3 and the slimmer edition with the Super Slim having an extended row of ridges at the top. According to the leaked pictures, discs could be loaded via a sliding door on the top and the left ridge area is expected to be used for ventilation purposes.

Is PS 3 Super Slim Super Cheap?

The real knockdown for Sony’s competitors will be the price at which the Super Slim is brought in. If the stories are true, the starting price could be as low as $150 potentially leaving the market in disarray. Sony consumers or potential consumers would be rushing either to replace their ageing machines or get a device for which they were awaiting an unexpected price cut. However, all will not be rosy about the release of the Super Slim if Sony’s financial results and recent sales are to go by. Sony will certainly need to be dead certain that they have managed to fit enough into the upcoming smaller console to make the waves in the market and keep customers loyal ahead of next year’s Xbox 720 release.
