The arrival of Nokia Lumia 920 has been labelled as Nokia’s last chance to compete with Apple and Samsung in the smartphone industry. However, Nokia have denied the claims and said that Lumia 920 is just a stepping stone to the mark they want to reach eventually despite the stock market’s sceptical look. At a press event held in New York City this Wednesday, the Nokia Lumia 920 was unveiled along with the Lumia 820 in an effort to bring back Nokia’s long lost glory days. The two devices run on Windows Phone 8 and both Microsoft and Nokia believe that the handsets are innovative and improved enough to take on Apple iPhone and the Android based phones.
Lumia 920 Specifications
The Lumia 920 will run a 1.5-GHz, dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and features 1GB of RAM, and 32GB of memory with 7GB of free SkyDrive storage.
Lumia 920 to Have Most Responsive Screen in the Market, Claims Nokia
If we analyse the features of the phone and the claims made to support them in detail, calling them bullish will be an understatement. The phone features the popular Nokia PureView technology and claims to have the brightest and the most responsive screen in the smartphone market. The screen may be the brightest at the moment but one can feel that the claim is a bit premature as Nokia’s rivals are yet to announce their phones. There are two cameras in the Lumia 920 – 8.7-megapixel rear-facing camera and full 1080p HD video capture at 30 fps with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera with 720p HD video capture. Software features such as selecting the best image from a similar group have already been introduced in the Samsung Galaxy S3. The touchscreen feature is certainly one too look out for with users being able to use the phone bare skin and with gloves on.
Wireless Battery Charging & Music Player
The phone comes with an eyebrow-raising 2000mAh battery but that was soon eclipsed by Motorola saying that their Droid Razr line will range from 2000 mAh up to 3300 mAh. Also, you do not need to plug in your phone to charge the big battery thanks to the wireless charging feature. Another exciting feature is the phone’s ability to play its music on JBL speakers wirelessly by tapping the phone on the speaker to invoke NFC.
Improved Nokia Maps
The smartphone will embrace Nokia’s improved City Lens app to enhance Nokia Maps. The app is able to examine the visible scenery with your phone’s camera and see what’s available. Any reviews and ratings available for a location in the scenery will be displayed to let you know about your vicinity. The user can then tap to make a call for further information regarding a particular location and moreover, you can share the location in a number of ways.
Last Chance For Nokia…
The phone and its operating system are certainly eye-catching but Nokia, in a way, may have harmed their own market as nobody will buy Windows phones until the Nokia Lumia 920 is released sometime in November. Besides that, the phone itself has not been able to create a wave in the carrier camp with not many of the big name providers committing to the deal. Nokia fans like it or not, it does seem that this is the last throw of the dice.
