We get a lot of questions from our readers about the warranty of their iPhone. Usually whenever an iPhone gets damaged, the first instinct of the user is to take to an Apple Service center to inquire if it can be fixed under warranty. However, you will be disappointed to know that a massive percentage of people who go to the service center return unsuccessful. Moreover, the diagnosis of the iPhone sometimes costs user money. This means if you phone your damaged phone to the Apple Service center, you will most probably get a negative response, and that too, at some price.

Damage to iPhone that Warranty Will NOT cover:

Let us point some of the most common damages that are NOT covered under iPhone Warranty:

1. Water Damage to iPhone:

Water damage is one of the most common types of mishandling. Often sms-addicted users throw it in a bath tub or some one baths it with beer in a bar. However, your standard iPhone warranty will not cover water damage at all. There are several indicators that turn red once the iPhone has been water damaged.

If your iPhone has been water damaged, don’t bother taking it to Apple for repair because they won’t do it no matter what you tell them.

2. Damage to iPhone Screen:

Like water damage, iPhone screen damage is very common as well. An iPhone falling on a hard surface from more than 4 feet will most probably get its screen broken if it lands the wrong way. If you damage iPhone’s screen, Apple will not repair it under warranty even if you bought it an hour ago. According to some stats, iPhone 4 has an 82% greater chance of getting its screen damaged as compared to iPhone 3GS.

3. iPhone Software Error:

If you try to jailbreak your phone or try to play around with the software, Apple considers the warranty void. Even if some hardware defect comes out that is not related to software, your phone will not be fixed. Although jailbreaking is a common practice, but it can be very risky at times. Use your iPhone for a month to make sure that there are no manufacturing defects before jailbreaking!

Get AppleCare if You Are Unlucky!

If you think you are the kind of guy who’ll throw the iPhone on floor once a week and give it occasional baths, we recommend you use AppleCare. Although this will cost you some money, but AppleCare covers water damage and dropping damage to the iPhone. AppleCare also caters for the software damage that can be repaired by restoring or upgrading the software.

Repair of a defected phone will cause you a $49 fee and some tax as well.

iPhone Warranty Covers Manufacturing Defects Only!

Remember, Apple warranty only covers damage that is due to manufacturing problem. Anything that is your fault, is not their problem. If you damage your phone and do not have AppleCare, we recommend getting it fixed by a third party repair company because they will usually charge less than Apple.
