Not many analysts and experts were thrown overboard by the new iPhone and suggested that it had more incremental upgrades rather than fresh features but it seems now that those comments have had little effect on the Apple consumer base. The latest announcement coming out from Cupertino is that Apple’s iPhone 5 has scored more than 2 million pre-orders in its first 24 hours, more than doubling the count of the iPhone 4S last year.

Shipping Time Extended

The numbers do not come as a major shock as once the iPhone 5 was made available online, Apple’s Web site was overawed on Friday and the carrier stores began to push back their delivery estimates towards the end of the day. Shipping times that were listed as one week at the start of the sale increased up to two weeks within an hour, such was the rush. United States carrier AT&T also revealed that the iPhone 5 sales made on the first day eclipsed the performance of all previous iPhone although it did not publish any figures.

All Previous Records Shattered

The response has been so overwhelming that Apple have been forced to say that demand has exceeded the initial supply. The initial orders are poised to arrive on September 21st while the remaining are scheduled to be delivered in October. Apple’s head of Marketing, Paul Schiller has stated that, “iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal.”

It looks as if Apple have come up with the best answer possible to the critics who wanted more to the iPhone 5, not to mention Samsung who released an ad suggesting that the Galaxy S3 was already better than iPhone 5. The design upgrade, along with the faster 4G LTE connection are apparently enough to permit even higher demand for the phone. Apple’s products since always have made a strong entry into the market; the real assessment lies in how long the iPhone 5 can keep up its thrust.
