iPad is a tablet device which was originally released by Apple inc back in 2010. The Original first generation iPad was a success but it received mix reviews from the critics and users due to some of the limitations in its features. Some of the critics even called it a bigger version of the iPod touch but still it started to gain popularity and spread around the world.

Right after one year of the launch of the original iPad, Apple came with a new and improved iPad named as the iPad 2. The iPad 2 was a revolutionary product because it completely changed the way people used their tablet devices. iPad 2 is still one of the best tablets available in the markets. Of course by now Apple has released 5 generations of iPad but iPad 2 was definitely the most sold tablet by now.

Hardware Specifications

When we talk about the specs of the iPad 2, it comes with a 9.7 inch display screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. The device came with a VGA front facing camera as well as a rear camera that is capable of recording 720p videos. The front camera is also used to make FaceTime calls to other iOS devices. The cameras were not included in the original iPad.

Internal Specifications

Apple also included a 1Ghz Dual core A5 processor chip under the hood along with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The iPad 2 was released in March 2011 and at the time of release it was available in different flavors based on storage, connectivity and colors.

3 iPad 2 Versions

There are three different versions of iPad 2 based on the storage, first comes with 16GB internal memory, second with 32GB and the third with 64GB. In addition to that, iPad 2 is available in two colors, white and black. In terms of connectivity, iPad 2 was available in two models, WiFi only and WiFi + 3G model.

Other Features

iPad 2 also included proximity and ambient light sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer and GPS for navigation and tracking. In addition to that, iPad 2 came with a microphone and it also featured a microSIM card tray which was only available in the cellular model.

On the software side, iPad 2 came with a new iOS update named as iOS 4.3. iOS 4.3 brought various new features including FaceTime, Personal Hotspots, Airplay and others. FaceTime is a feature that allows users of iOS devices to make free voice and video calls over the internet to each other. AirPlay is a streaming service which allows users to stream music or movies from one iOS device to other. Later that year, iPad 2 was also made upgradeable to iOS 5 that brought over 200 new features.
