There was a day and age when you could throw your hefty and robust cell phones around your bedroom or toss them in your pockets with your keys but not anymore. Present day smartphones are delicate electronic devices that do not come with the ‘handle with care’ tag but do require special attention. They are tested to be one of the dirtiest personal items as you touch them anytime and anywhere. Proper cleaning requires extraordinary care if you are to preserve that large touch screen and the shiny frame. Here are a few tips and tricks that can help you do that.
1. Turn off the Phone and Remove the Battery:
Whenever you go about doing maintenance of your smartphone, firstly, power off your phone and remove the battery. Secondly, if you use any removable protective covers and sheets, remove them from your phone. Any sort of screen protector should only be kept on if your phone screen is cracked to avoid dirt and moisture going through.
2. Cleaning the Frame or the Touchpad:
If your phone has a separate touchpad to the screen, clean it with a micro-fiber cloth. If you have wet the cloth to remove stronger strains, be sure to dry the touchpad or you could have problems using it. If your device has a traditional keypad/keyboard, use a cotton swab to reach the space between the keys. The swab must be dry enough to prevent any liquid drops going through. Use a rubbing alcohol as the cleaning liquid; household cleaners are odds on to blemish your device permanently.
3. Cleaning the Insides:
It is not a bad idea to clean your smartphone from the insides where the battery is located. You can do that if you are familiar with your phone structure and know how to open the covers. Use another clean piece of the micro-fiber cloth to do that.
4. Cleaning the screen:
Once you are done with the rest of the phone, then it’s time to move over to the screen. Screens are to be wiped with micro-fiber cloth also and special care is required that the rubbing is not too hard. Wet the micro-fiber slightly with the rubbing alcohol or distilled water if the stains do not go away the first time. Phones like the iPhone have a special protective coating over the screen that can wear away if caution is not applied or if chemical cleaners are used.
Valuable Tips!
If your device gets mistakenly wet, let it dry before installing the battery and using the phone again. Protective covers and casings should be also be cleaned thoroughly if being used with the phone. As a precaution, use a spray bottle to wet the micro-fiber cloth to ensure that moisture does not go into the phone. These steps might seem tedious to some but they will go a long way in prolonging the life of your smartphone.
