RIM introduced the BlackBerry Curve 8520 handset back in 2009. Well, the design of the device is not very different from its predecessors, as it had similar looks to the other BlackBerry handsets at the time. The only thing that is different in the BlackBerry 8520 is that it does not come with rollerball that is used for the navigation. Instead of that roller ball the Blackberry 8520 features a small optical pad in shape of a button at the same position.

Very Affordable

So, basically this pad works like a mini touchpad and you can learn to use it very easily and it is accurate as well. In addition to that, the small optical pad also does not have any moving part unlike the roller ball in the previous versions and that is why it will not easily get damaged and it will last longer. Now, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 was designed as one of the most affordable handsets from RIM and that is why it does not feature a metal backplate, instead it includes one which is made of glossy plastic.

Cheap look

Well, the plastic back makes the handset look a little cheap and there are risks of it getting slipped from the hand due to the compact form factor of the device. On the side of the handset you will find buttons for volume control, camera and voice control. Of course the device comes with the complete QWERTY keyboard which is pretty standard size and makes is easy to type.

Specifications

The screen of the handset is 2.6 inch big and similar to other Blackberry handsets, it also offer the regular 320 x 240 pixel resolution which is pretty normal. Inside of the device has a quick 512MHz processor which does not do any lag. In addition to that, there is a 256MB of RAM which is kind of minimal but there is a microSD card slot available so no worries about that.

In addition to that, everything else is pretty standard but the does not feature 3G or HSDPA connectivity option and neither there is GPS available in it. In our opinion, these features were not included in it to make it more affordable to the budget users which makes sense. Overall, the Blackberry 8520 is very nice and affordable handset, and it offers a lot of features in such low price to a wide variety of consumers.
