Just like in all other new technologies, Apple is going to adapt the wireless charging technology later than everyone else, as usual. Once again, they have maintained their tradition by filing a patent for Wireless Charging method they have created. Just like their other services, Apple is sure that their Wireless Charging method is also better as well as different than everyone else’s. We don’t understand how Apple is trying to file for a patent for a technology that is already available in the markets, but of course its Apple and they have been doing it for years by inventing their very own ways of doing stuff.
If you follow all the big new Apple patents, then you might be familiar with the expert who covers them all, Florian Mueller. Right now, Florian has not said anything about this patent, but in our opinion the wireless charging method described in this patent is looking completely baseless.
Today, TheRegister reported the filing of the patent application by Apple related to the Wireless technology. According to the same website, the method described by Apple does not have any major differences with the wireless charging technology that is already available. According to the report, Apple’s wireless charging will also offer the same one meter distance which is already released by other manufacturers.
So, it seems like we are looking at another patent battle but this time the Alliance For Wireless Power is also in the play. Alliance consist of manufacturers which include Apple itself, Samsung and Qualcomm and the Alliance has made some standard methods of distance charging, and we think that Apple should offer something different from those. The Alliance’s main belief is that the distance wireless charging will be the main selling point of the future products.
You have to keep in mind that back in 2010, Apple first time filed the patents on Wireless charging which means that there is a no point for the existence of the Alliance. On the other hand, even before Apple, a company named WiPower also filed the patent application for the same technology and that was in 2008. So, right now, Qualcomm owns WiPower and its patents and it is also one of the member of the Alliance and here we have Samsung too with its patents.
So, apparently, its just a matter of time when these companies start another great legal battle based on the patents of the Wireless charging. Of course Wireless Charging technology has a great future ahead but first of all the big companies need to solve their inside issues and bring it for the consumers.
