Apple iPhone 5 has finally arrived on the scene and its potential comparisons with competitors are not going to be long way off as almost all the rumours turned out to be true. Samsung has already sold over 20 million Galaxy S3 handsets whereas Nokia’s Lumia 920 has excited several tech experts who believe that Nokia finally may have come up with an answer. As we delve further into the assessment, let it known that iPhone 5 and Lumia 920 are not yet available in the market and therefore we will be limited to educated speculation.

Design Comparison:

The latest iPhone is all made up of aluminum and glass and although it may appear slightly less extravagant but it will certainly survive more drops. The biggest turn-off of the new Nokia is its plastic body and while all the bright colors and poly-carbonate body try their best to add distinctiveness, it is unlikely to be everyone’s cup of tea. Galaxy S3, meanwhile does have an engaging design but all the polished and shiny plastic looks a notch off the iPhone. The large screen size also does not make it uncomfortable to hold and it isn’t that much fragile as it seems. Everything combined, iPhone 5 shades it with intimately crisp lines but there is no denying the fact that Nokia has made a statement.

Screen and Display:

iPhone 5 comes with a resolution of 1136×640 pixels and with an increased screen size of 4-inches, it yields 326 ppi and gives the phone a 16:9 aspect ratio. The Galaxy S3 has the largest screen size of the lot with a staggering 4.8-inch screen and a resolution of 1280×720 pixels with a pixel density of 306 ppi. Nokia’s Lumia 920 has a 4.5-inch Nokia PureMotion HD+ display, an elaborate name for the AMOLED screen technology. It has a WXGA resolution of 1,280×768 pixels giving the handset a pixel density of 332 ppi. The ClearBlack Display filter cuts down significantly on the glare from Lumia 920 giving it an edge over the display of the other two devices, at least academically.

Camera Quality:

Both Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 have 8.0 megapixel cameras and the quality of iPhone 4S was good enough to match the S3. Apple have certainly improved the overall camera package meaning that they will expectedly hold an advantage over the S3. Nokia’s Lumia 900 failed to raise eyebrows and therefore you cannot bet on Lumia 920 despite its 8.7 megapixel camera and the PureView Technology. This is a difficult one to call but you have it give it to the iPhone 5 on the series reputation.

LTE Connectivity:

There is not much to compare here with Apple finally catching up with the other two handsets by incorporating a feature that should have come with the 4S.

Battery Life:

Nokia has stated that Lumia 920 will come with a 2000mAh battery which is slightly smaller than Galaxy S3’s 2100mAh battery that gives more than 9 hours of video playback service. Apple hasn’t revealed any specs but claims that iPhone will give 10 hours of video playback and 8 hours of LTE web serving. To be honest, iPhone 5 and Lumia 920’s claims can’t be tested yet and the removable battery feature of the S3 gives it a win.

NFC – iPhone is a Disappointment!

The surprising absence of NFC in the iPhone 5 is one of the major disappointments for users desiring to have their smartphone wirelessly communicate with other relevant electronic devices. S3 and Lumia 920 have NFC support and are already marketing it successfully. Galaxy S3, because of its head start in the market, triumphs.

Voice Assistance Comparison:

Siri helps Apple take this one easily after having undergone significant improvements and Samsung’s S Voice failing to boost Galaxy S3 despite having Google Actions. Lumia 920 is supported by Microsoft’s TellMe which is subtle in all but can’t really match Siri.

Decision Time!

All aspects put together, you feel that the iPhone has shaded it but not by creating something unique but instead by improving upon their already successful features. Galaxy S3 is a handset enriched by innovative features and smart hardware but it will have to go some way before it can match Apple’s reliability and ecosystem. As for Nokia, we have to get the Lumia 920 in our hands for further scrutiny before making any decisive judgments. Whatever the final results may be, one thing is sure that Apple will not be allowed a clear path at throne.
