A little while ago Google and LG announced their latest flagship smartphone and the current Nexus device called Nexus 4. It is a very amazing device developed by LG and Google’s cooperation. When the companies announced this device, they did not mention that whether it will bring 4G LTE connectivity or not and when the device was actually released in November, it did not bring 4G connectivity. In our opinion, Google and LG were not that much optimistic of including 4G into the list of the specs of the Nexus 4, because if 4G was included in the device then the companies would have to produce different units for the different parts of the world and advertise them differently as well. Just like Apple is doing with its iPhone 5 but LG and Google avoided to go through all that and released the Nexus 4 with only 3G connectivity.

Well, after the release of the device, when the guys at iFixit opened it up, they found the 4G LTE baseband chip inside it which was really surprising. The particular 4G baseband chip found in the Nexus 4 is capable of supporting a few LTE networks but Google and LG did not offer any of this feature officially to the consumers. This specific baseband is capable of supporting networks of Telus, Rogers and Bell in Canada while you can also get 4G internet from AT&T in some parts of the US on your Nexus 4.

Procedure

So, if you are a lucky owner of a new LG Nexus 4 smartphone, you can easily get 4G connectivity on your device by getting any of the above mentioned carriers. It is a very simple process that will make your 3G only device into a 4G LTE capable smartphone. All you need to do is just dial

*#*#4636#*#*

After that, you will have to change the network type to LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) and that’s it. Now, you will be able to surf the internet with blazing fast 4G speeds on your Nexus 4.

Of course you have to keep in mind that LG did not add a signal amplifier in the Nexus 4 which means that you might be getting some poor network performance but still it’s a great deal. If you want to revert back to the normal connectivity, all you need to do is just dial the same number and change your preferred network back to GSM only.
